Tale of The Scorpion

Written by: Adrian Truss
Directed by: Anthony Cistaro
Dates: January- February 2003
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Stella Adler Theatre)
Character: Lon Go Ti

Plot Description:

Tale of the Scorpion is a highly entertaining theatrical ode
to pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s. A successful, overworked pulp fiction
writer on deadline works feverishly to complete three novels simultaneously. As
he works into the night, his colorful heroes and villains come to life...

Character Description:
Tall, gaunt figure in a traditional Chinese robe and cap. Obviously not Asian, but believes himself to be. In the tradition of Warner Oland as Wu Fang/Charlie Chan and Boris Karloff as Fu Manchu. Given to quoting pithy proverbs.

Quotes:
"Are you challenging me?"

"It is written that a man who burns the candle at both ends sometimes has to go to the hospital in bad need of psychiatric care."

"Better that than Captain Tomorrow. I mean, doesn't he ever say anything without shouting it? And he's got loudspeakers attached to his space ship! As if he needs them!"

Reviews:

"...director Cistaro's staging, which mixes camp and affection for the material's pulpy origins, is infectious. " ---Paul Birchall, Backstage.com

"The staging, lighting and sound are terrific and the music is so good it's almost a cast member by itself. Visually captivating, the costuming makes the characters come alive and the hokey old time narration is perfectly meshed with the story. This is a fun show that keeps the audience in stitches from start to finish." --- Reviewplays.com
